Is It Time to Give Up? Or Is There Still Faith in The Sox?

With the Sox 5-2 loss last night, they are now stand at 57-61, 13.5 games behind the Yankees for first place in the American League East and 6.5 games back behind Baltimore and Tampa for a Wild Card berth. To add to the frustration only 44 games remain with about 2 months of baseball left to be played. So here is the question, is it time to throw in the towel or is there still fight left in this bunch of underachievers?

After last season's disastrous outcome, Boston fans hoped that this year would be different. As of today we were wrong. A few weeks ago the Sox started going on a tear, putting together a promising winning streak, restoring some faith in the Red Sox Nation, but since August started the Red Sox are 4-10 against teams such as Minnesota and Cleveland. After Sundays 14-1 clobbering over Cleveland, a little faith was restored in my heart hoping that the Sox would turn it around for the next two months and give us our moneys worth. Well I was wrong. After loosing two terrible games to Baltimore, the Sox have dug themselves into a deeper hole.

Sure injuries haven't helped, as it seems every week another player goes down. (Youkilis would have been good to have at this time). However, enough is enough. We as New England sports fans want success and if a team isn't going to meet our expectations, then maybe changes need to be made, and made now, not at the end of the season.

As of now there is nothing to do but hope. Hope for the Sox to play with heart and passion. Play like a team with the second highest payroll in the MLB. If not I guess we can look forward a few weeks when a real team of winners starts and a few months after that when the Celtics and Bruins take to the Garden to show the fans what real teams are, because right now the Sox aren't a real team, they aren't playing with heart.
