Well, At Least We Know It Wasn't the Pitching Coach

The Red Sox home stand began the way the road trip ended - with a loss. The Angels snapped a 4-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

With Boston having fired their pitching coach on Monday, Aaron Cook allowed 5 runs (4 earned) in 5 innings on 11 hits and a walk; he struck out 4. Meanwhile, Ervin Santana picked up his 7th win of the season. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks over 6.1 innings.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit his 21st home run of the season off Santana in the bottom of the 6th with a man on.

Angels Rookie of the Year candidate Mike Trout was 2-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored.

The Red Sox honored the late Johnny Pesky in a pre-game ceremony. Pesky's number 6 was cut into the Fenway lawn just behind shortstop and what looked like the design of the Pesky Pole complete with screen could be seen in the grass in center.

Randy Nieman was named Red Sox pitching coach after Bob McClure was fired on Monday night.
