The Birthday Boy Seals the "W"

Jacoby Ellsbury celebrated his 29th birthday with a 4-hit performance including a bottom of the 9th game-winning single off losing pitcher David Robertson as the Red Sox beat the Yankees 4-3 at Fenway Park.

Jon Lester gave up a 1st inning run (gee, really?) but managed to leave the bases loaded and then settled down enough to pitch into the 6th inning. He was charged with all 3 New York runs on 5 hits and 7 walks while striking out 6.

Junichi Tazawa, Craig Breslow and Andrew Bailey combined to shut the Yankees down over the final 3.2 innings allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk. Bailey got the win in relief.

In addition to the 4 hits by Ellsbury (pictured), Dustin Pedroia had 3 hits and Pedro Ciriaco had 2; Ciriaco also made an incredible play at 3rd base.

The loss dropped the Yankees back into a tie with the Baltimore Orioles who pounded Tampa 9-2.
