Free food in Fenway during April

The Boston Red Sox are often known to not hold many fan promotions, for the last few seasons they had no need to, they had over a 700 game sellout streak. This season the streak will end and with it will end the lack of promotions to try and get fans to pack Fenway Park every single night. The first and quite surprising promotion is the discount in concession stands items. Fans aged under 14 will be able to get a free meal from a special stand before the 3rd inning ends, the meal including a Fenway Frank, a carton of juice and a package of goldfish. Also included in the promotion for all of the April games is a buy one get one free on Fenway Franks, a fan favorite and a shocking discount on beer. The typical price of a beer at Fenway will run an of age buyer between $7.50-$8.50 but during the promotion will cost fans $5.00. Think back to the last time you went to a ball game in Boston and you were spend $10 got a beer and 2 hot dogs, it must have been before the sellout streak started.
The Red Sox chief operating officer Sam Kennedy announced the promotion and said “We’re looking for ways to fill the ballpark, and hopefully this will help, but more importantly, that it be received as a thank you given everything we’ve been through the last nine, 10 years together. We thought it was an appropriate gesture." An appropriate gesture? Dont call my a cynic or anything but this is a team that was expected to contend for the AL East title last year, and came in last place in the division with a 69-93 season. This could be a nice gesture by the organization but wouldn't it have been nice to see some of the most expensive ticket prices in Major League Baseball come down a little bit? There will be empty seats in almost every game of April excluding the home opener, one would hope, but hopefully this promotion can help fans stomach the $28 to buy a seat in the bleachers and then make them a little happier while downing a few brews. This will most certainly not be the only promotion of the 2013 season, as a fan what promotion would make you go to the ballpark? Leave your answers below in the comments or tell me on twitter.
