Napoli's blast helps Sox past A's

For a guy who was supposed to have hip issues.... Mike Napoli's grand slam off Oakland A's starting pitcher A.J. Griffin helped power the Red Sox to a 9-6 win Monday night at Fenway Park.

Napoli (pictured) had a pair of hits including his 9th double and 4th home run of the season, scored a pair of runs and drove in 5. He now has 11 extra base hits in his last 13 games while driving in 17 runs. Will Middlebrooks also went deep for the Sox.

Felix Doubront started for Boston and went 6.2 innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 5 walks while striking out 8. He improved his record to 2-0.

Clayton Mortensen ran into some trouble in relief of Doubront, allowing 3 runs in the top of the 8th to make things close. Andrew Bailey came on in the 9th and following a leadoff walk, he struck out 2 and got a ground out to get the save.

NOTES - Lots of old friends in the Oakland lineup Monday night including Coco Crisp (0-4), Jed Lowrie (0-4) and Josh Reddick (2-4). * John Lackey made a rehab start for AA Portland earlier throwing 3.2 shutout innings. He gave up 3 hits but didn't walk anyone while striking out 5. On a pretty strict pitch count for the outing, Lackey threw 45 of 67 pitches for strikes.
