The Boston Red Sox Single-A affiliate in Salem, Virginia, the Salem Red Sox, won the Carolina League title by completing a sweep of the Potomac Nationals with a 6-4 victory according to boston.com. According to boston.com, this is the 5th Carolina League championship and first since becoming an affiliate of the big league Red Sox. Sean Coyle was named series MVP after hitting .417 with 3 doubles and 7 RBI's in the series, according to boston.com. Second baseman, Mookie Betts was also outstanding throughout the postseason, hitting .412 with 8 RBI's.

This has great implications for the future of the Red Sox organization, assuming some of these guys make it up to the big leagues. The two guys I mentioned earlier will bear watching in the future, as they could be the next big thing for the Red Sox. It has no bearing on this season, but it's good sign for the future of this organization, especially with some of the young guns making big contributions this season. So, congratulations, Salem, and I hope we see some of these guys in the future.
