According to a report from CBS Sports, Jon Lester has been scratched from his Wednesday start. It doesn't necessarily mean anything has happened yet, but it could be a strong indicator that a deal may happen at some point tomorrow. There are other possible factors for the scratch, but the timing of the move worries me and probably most of Red Sox Nation.
Here are the reasons CBS gives as possibilities for the scratch:
1. Lester becomes more attractive to suitors with one extra start available.
2. It prevents injury.
3. It prevents an awful outing, that might well diminish his value, even if only slightly due to the incredibly small sample that is one game.
In a separate article, CBS Sports mentions that there are several teams in the hunt for Lester, so scratching him could mean the Sox have gotten an offer they like.
We'll monitor the situation and let you know if anything more comes of this.
