Sox hit the road for nine against the N.L.
The RedSox start a nine game road trip tonight in Pittsburgh after dropping 2 of 3 at home to the Padres. Adrian Gonzalez continues to tear up N.L. pitching hitting .548 in nine games this season.
John Lester (9-3, 3.70 ERA) is looking for his 10th win of the season tonight against a Pirates team that is currently sitting at a respectable 37-37. This will be Lester's first time pitching against the Pirates.
For the Pirates tonight will be Paul Maholm, (3-8, 3.29 ERA) who is making his first start against the RedSox. In interleague play this season he has a four game losing streak and a 6.98 ERA but Clint Hurdle has his team playing tough.
Usually the cellar dwellers of the N.L. Central, the Pirates are only three games out of first place in the central this season. Milwaukee and Saint Louis are tied for first. Andrew McCutchen is their hottest hitter going 6 for 9 in their last three game series at home against Baltimore. They took two out of three from the O's and look to build on their success they had in that series.
The RedSox are looking to turn around their misfortunes after taking the first game against the Padres then dropping the last two at home. After this series, the Sox head to Philadelphia for three with the Phillies who have baseball's best record sitting at 47-29 and are 28-12 at home this season. Then they'll head to Houston for a three game series against the Astros to conclude their portion of the interleague schedule.
