Game 119 - Mariners 5, Red Sox 3

So maybe John Lackey is looking a little bit better after a weekend series against the Mariners in which the Red Sox fell behind early in each of the 3 games, winning only the Friday night game Lackey pitched. Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield's 4th attempt at career win #200 on Sunday afternoon was derailed by a 3rd inning that saw two errors and another controversial call not go in the Red Sox' direction as Seattle scored 3 runs.

Wakefield went the distance (8 innings in this case) allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and 2 walks. The lone offensive highlight came on a 2-run homer by Kevin Youkilis in the top of the 8th inning. After missing back-to-back games with back issues, that was a nice sight for Red Sox fans.

NOTES - The series loss was the first for the Red Sox since doing so against the Phillies in late June.

With the home run by Youkilis in the 8th, the Red Sox now have 81 road HR's for the season, tops in the Major Leagues.

The Yankees/Rays game was rained out in the Bronx on Sunday; James Shields will now start the first game of Tuesday's day/night doubleheader at Fenway.
