More Wild Card Teams?

Bud's last battle?
Addition of a second wild card in each league would add a one-game play-in between teams with the two best records in each league that are not division winners. Selig says that would mean condensing the overall playoff schedule.
I'm not sure what problem is being solved here. I still say the playoffs are already too complicated. Unique among major American sports, baseball needs its pennant race. They play 162 games, during the summer. In the old system, a division lead change meant much more. The season was long, but it had suspense. I miss that.

But they make money on playoff games, and the networks like it, so the Wild Card battle is lost. Still ... why make it more complicated?
