What the Sox Need: Speed

For kicks, I took a look at the team batting stats for 2011. As you can see, the Sox are near the top of every category, but in two cases, they are 9th among AL teams.

Stolen bases, and number of times caught stealing.

They stole fewer bags than the league average, but were caught just two fewer times than the average.

To be fair, a lot of this is Jacoby, who stole well below his average (only 39) and was caught 15 times, double his usual number.

I was surprised; slow Sox are old school. But I can see why they wouldn't pursue Prince Fielder. That and the price.
