Daniel Bard freaks out, Red Sox lose
The Red Sox fell 9-6 to the Cardinals today in Ft. Myers. Dissapointing considering that they were up 6-4 going into the 8th. Alfredo Aceves pitched well, going 4 innings and only giving up 1 run. As the spring progresses the pitchers will continue to be stretched out and this was by far Aceves' longest outing. The lone bad spot for the pitchers today? Daniel Bard. Bard went 2.2 innings, giving up 7 earned runs and failing to back up 3rd base on a bases clearing triple. Not only did he get shelled for 6 hits but he also walked 4 people.
It's outings like this that can decided the rotation going forward.
Pete Abraham tweeted that Bard, "left the field with his head down." Hopefully he can respond from this outing. The Sox look to rebound tomorrow against Minnesota at 7:05pm.
