Positioning the Laser

Maybe I'm getting old and cranky, but it seems to me that all players should feel this way. From our news box:
[Pedroia] doesn't much care where he hits.
... the context being that he has batted leadoff a bit this spring, but dropped to second yesterday and had a good day.

Granted, third and fourth are the prestige spots, with fifh, sixth, and leadoff following from there in some order. So I can understand players feeling slighted if they're seventh, eighth, or ninth, and I have some sympathy for not wanting to lead off the first inning. After that, though, leadoff doesn't matter much. But really the standard should be in the lineup. Any position in the lineup, even ninth, for the vaunted Boston Red Sox is a great honor.

I tend to think Pedroia would care if he got dropped to the bottom of the order. But if he really doesn't care, then good for him.
