Great Ceremony, Cool Uniforms, Lousy Result - Sox Lose 6-2

On what was a very emotional 100th birthday for Fenway Park, the Yankees helped themselves to five solo home runs en route to a 6-2 win over the Red Sox. Clay Buchholz was touched for all five home runs, the 2nd time in 2012 that a Boston starter has allowed that many home runs in a game (Josh Beckett being the other). He went 6 innings allowing all 6 runs on 9 hits. He walked 2 and struck out a pair.

David Ortiz went deep off Yankees starter Ivan Nova in the bottom of the 2nd inning. For Big Papi it was his 2nd home run of the season.

NOTES - As expected, former manager Terry Francona received a loud ovation from the sold-out Fenway crowd during the pre-game ceremony in which more than 200 former Red Sox players came out onto the Fenway lawn.

Both teams wore throwback uniforms resembling those worn by the players on April 20, 1912.

April 20 has another significance for Red Sox fans. On that date in 1939 Ted Williams made his Major League debut.

Thursday's free open house at Fenway was estimated to have drawn well over 50,000 people to the ballpark.
