Tigers Take Beckett Deep Five Times As Red Sox Lose 10-0

Okay, so maybe John Beckett's thumb IS an issue. Following a terrific performance by starter Jon Lester in a 3-2 Opening Day loss to the Tigers, Beckett surrendered 5 home runs to the Detroit Tigers in just 4.2 innings as the Red Sox dropped their second straight game to Detroit, 10-0. Think about that for a moment - Beckett gave up more home runs than the number of innings he pitched. I'll refrain from any references to beer and chicken; Joe Buck & Tim McCarver covered that completely during the Fox telecast.

The offense is off to a horrific start. Last year's MVP runner-up Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, and Mike Aviles are all 0-for-the-season.

NOTES - I know I made a flip beer/chicken reference above, but are we going to have to listen to Buck & McCarver talk about it every time Fox does a Red Sox game this season? They were still going strong with it as late as the bottom of the 8th inning.

Adrian Gonzalez and Ryan Sweeney each had two hits, really the lone offensive bright spots for the Red Sox on a day when the team managed only 7 hits.

Tigers starting pitcher Doug Fister left the game in the 4th inning with an injury to his left side.

The Red Sox close out the opening series with the Tigers on Easter Sunday in a 1:05 PM start. Clay Buchholz will start for Boston.
