A's Knock Down Red Sox 5-3

Oakland starting pitching Jarrod Parker made his first career start against the Red Sox a memorable one, holding Boston to 1 run on 4 hits over 6.2 innings as the Athletics beat the Red Sox 5-3 at cold, foggy Fenway Park. For Parker it was also his first career win. Oakland scored 1 in the first and another 4 in the 4th, all off Felix Doubront who suffered the loss.

Doubront gave up 6 hits and allowed 2 walks while striking out 8.

NOTES - With his 2 RBI's in the bottom of the 9th inning, Mike Aviles now has 6 multi-RBI games this season.

The Red Sox sent pitcher Junichi Tazawa to AAA Pawtucket prior to the game, calling up shortstop Jose Iglesias as infield insurance with Kevin Youkilis out for a 3rd straight game dealing with back issues. Youkilis actually came into the on deck circle in the bottom of the 9th to pinch hit for Lars Anderson but was never announced into the game.
