Sneak Snapped At 5 As Rays Top Sox 2-1

The Tampa Rays scored one run on a Clay Buchholz balk and another on a sacrifice fly to beat the Red Sox 2-1, breaking Boston's 5-game winning streak. Buchholz (pictured) went 5 innings and was charged with both runs on 6 hits and 1 walk; he struck out 5. The Red Sox lone run came in on an RBI single by Daniel Nava off Tampa starter Jeremy Hellickson in the top of the 4th inning.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Mike Aviles each had 2 hits for Boston.

The Red Sox bullpen contributed another fine performance. Andrew Miller, Matt Albers, Franklin Morales and Scott Atchison threw a combined 3 innings of shutout baseball allowing only 2 hits and a pair of walks.

NOTES - On the Red Sox medical front, closer Andrew Bailey has been given clearance to begin throwing next week. Kevin Youkilis went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run scored in 3 at bats as the designated hitter for Pawtucket in a 5-4 win over Durham. Daisuke Matsuzaka will start for the PawSox Thursday night.

Clay Buchholz saw his earned run average drop from 8.31 to 7.77
