Sox Held To Just 2 Hits In 4-1 Loss To Orioles
Orioles starting pitcher Brian Matusz held the Red Sox to 1 run on just 2 hits over 6.1 innings in a 4-1 Baltimore victory at Camden Yards. Matusz struck out 9 and gave up one walk; the only real blemish on his night came in the form of a Kevin Youkilis solo home run in the top of the 4th inning.
Felix Doubront started for the Red Sox and pitched well. He went 6 innings allowing 2 runs on just 4 hits. He struck out a career-high 9 batters while walking 2. Both runs came on a Steve Tolleson home run in the bottom of the 2nd inning.
Kevin Youkilis made his first start since coming off the disabled list. He played 1st base and Adrian Gonzalez played right field. They were the only two players to get hits for the Red Sox in the game.
NOTES - Balks continue to be a problem for Red Sox pitchers. Franklin Morales balked to advance a runner, his 3rd of the season and the 10th of the year for Boston.
As expected, Cody Ross was placed on the disabled list before the game. He will be in a walking boot for the time being.
The Sox featured an interesting defensive lineup with Kevin Youkilis at first base, Will Middlebrooks at third, and Adrian Gonzalez in right field.
Scott Podsednik was added to the Boston roster prior to the game. It was his first time back in the Majors since 2010.
