Sox Use Long Ball To Hammer Blanton, Phillies

The Red Sox slammed 4 home runs - all off Phillies starter Joe Blanton - in beating the Phillies 7-5 at Citizens Bank Park snapping Philadelphia's 6-game winning streak. Mike Aviles (pictured) started things early with a leadoff home run in the top of the 1st inning. Will Middlebrooks and Jarrod Saltalamacchia went back-to-back in the 4th with solo blasts, followed by David Ortiz's 2-run bomb in the top of the 5th inning.

Jon Lester got the win for the Sox going 6 innings and allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and a walk while striking out 3.

Ortiz played 1st base for Boston while regular 1st baseman Adrian Gonzalez was in right field until the bottom of the 9th when Gonzalez moved back to 1st for better defense.

NOTES - With the win, Lester improved his career record against the Phillies to 4-0. Meanwhile, Blanton's record against the Red Sox fell to 3-4.

Alfredo Aceves picked up his 9th save of the seaosn. He's 7 for his last 7 in save chances.
