Draft Day

It's not quite as dramatic in baseball as it is in football or basketball, but so far the Red Sox have selected Deven Marrero, a shortstop from Arizona State, and Brian Johnson, a pitcher from Florida State, Jenny Dell (@jennydellnesn) reports via Twitter.

Apparently Marrero excels in tough times.

Meanwhile a decision appears to loom on Daniel Bard. Nick Cafardo writes:
@nickcafardo Red Sox brass will formulate plan on Daniel Bard's pitching woes tomorrow. Choices are bullpen, DL, option to minors or status quo.

Why is the disabled list an option? Are they going to trip him on his way into the room?

Bard could argue, if he wants, that he's been better than Buchholz on some measures, notably ERA and WHIP, but Clay has been better lately and is an established starter. I'd rather see Bard turn it around than see him shipped down, but either way, he had a fair shot.

Boston.com looks at potential trades, emphasizing who might be coming more than who might be going. I'm a bit skeptical of some of their theories.

It is strange to have trade talk, when the team has so many players hurt and nearly ready to return? No, it's not strange ... this is Boston.
