Beckett, Mortensen Dig Too Deep A Hole

I mean, how many times can you expect the offense to bail you out? The Red Sox dropped a crushing 10-9 game to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park thanks, in part to VERY ineffective pitching by Josh Beckett and Clay Mortensen.

Josh Beckett allowed a season-high 8 runs on 8 hits - including 3 home runs - and a pair of walks over 5 innings, and Clay Mortensen was charged with 2 more runs over 3 innings.

Cody Ross (pictured) and Will Middlebrooks each went deep for the Red Sox. Ross's home run tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the 3rd; Middlebrooks tied the game at 9 with his 3-run shot in the bottom of the 7th.

Ross and Adrian Gonzalez each had 3 hits in the loss. Gonzalez is now hitting .310 on the season with 34 doubles and 72 runs batted in.
