Cody Ross drove in 3 runs with a single and a double, and Jacoby Ellsbury homered as the Red Sox closed out the homestand with a 5-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday afternoon at Fenway Park. Ross (pictured), Ellsbury and Scott Podsednik each had 2 hits.
While some of the twitter cynics were worrying about whether the announced sell-out was legit, Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 7 very strong innings allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and a pair of walks. He struck out 6 in his first start since coming off the disabled list; he hadn't pitched since July 2nd.
The Red Sox open a 9-game West Coast road trip tomorrow night against the Angels, with stops in Oakland and Seattle.
