No Victory, No Spoils
"Trying to help the Orioles" was Don Orsillo's nice way of putting it, but somehow I think the presence of Dustin Pedroia (scratched last night) and Jacoby Ellsbury in the lineup had more to do with beating the Yankees.
And it seemed like they would, when they held a lead, and then James Loney hit a solo shot in the top of the ninth to make it 3-1 Sox.
But Raul Ibanez (pictured), pinch hitting, lined one into the seats to tie it. Three innings later, he knocked in the winning run to end it. A Yankee pitcher named Derek Lowe got the win.
Jon Lester started the game and pitched five decent innings, allowing one run. But he left the game after appearing to injure himself during a pitch. A tough end to his season.
One more game to play, tomorrow night.
