3 Stars of the game: Game 22
The Houston Astros played their first game in Fenway Park as a member of the American League, and they may not want to remember much of the game. Red Sox hitters jumped all over Phil Humber early, plating 4 runs in the first inning. While the offense may have missed some speed with Shane Victorino currently out and on a day to day basis they did not let this slow them down. Pitching also was fantastic, Buchholz continued his dominance and became the first 5 game winner in the Major Leagues. Here are your 3 stars of the game:
Star 3: Jarrod Saltalamacchia
Salty called a great game behind the plate for Buchholz, helping him get his 5th win on the season. Salty also had a good night at the plate going 2-4 with 2 RBI's. Both of his RBI's came off of singles, one in the 1st and the other in the 5th inning.
Star 2: David Ortiz
Ortiz is currently red hot at the plate right now. He is providing quite the spark in the offense for a team that already was performing well offensively. Tonight was a great night for Ortiz who hit his first home run on the year with a bomb to straight away center field. Big Papi went 3-4 tonight with 2 RBI's and scored 3 runs.
Star 1: Clay Buchholz
Once again all that is needed to be said is WOW. Clay Buchholz is on a mission this year, he is in the zone and absolutely refuses to get anything other than a win every time he goes out on the mound. Tonight was no different, Buchholz improved to 5-0 in 5 starts and is the league leader in wins. In 7 and 2/3 innings pitched Buchholz gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 10, including 3 in the 3rd inning. He walked 2 Houston hitters and threw 109 pitches, 65 of them for strikes.
I love the way this team is playing, and the fact that they are playing a 4 game series against Houston makes me even happier. I hope the team will be able to sweep the series and will raise the teams confidence even higher. Were these the 3 players of the game?
