Buchholz dominates in Sox win
Clay Buchholz came within 6 outs of his 2nd career no-hitter as the Red Sox blanked the Tampa Bay Rays 5-0 at Fenway Park. Leading off the top of the 8th inning, Kelly Johnson slapped a broken-bat single to right field to end Buch's attempt at becoming the 25th pitcher to throw multiple no-hitters in MLB history.
Buchholz went 8 innings, blanking the Rays on just 5 hits. He walked 4 and struck out 11.
The Red Sox scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. With the bases loaded, Mike Napoli hit a double to the base of the centerfield wall around the 420 sign that scored two. two more runs scored on a throwing error by Yunel Escobar on what probably should have been an inning-ending double play. The 5th run scored on a Will Middlebrooks sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th.
