Why so series-ous? Sox have won 5 out of 7 series this season
For a team that most picked to finish 5th in the AL East, the Red Sox are off to a hot start and are sitting on top of their division. Red Sox have taken 5 out of their first 7 series this season and quite honestly should've been 6 when they dropped a pair to the Royals during a double header. To start the year the Sox were going against the four teams in the AL East that were supposed to be better and finish ahead of the Red Sox.
Right out the gate the Sox came out swinging in the Bronx posting 15 runs in the first two games and taking that 3 game series. Next up were the re-vamped Blue Jays or the old Miami Marlins however you'd like to look at it. With the additions of Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, and Josh Johnson to name a few, the Blue Jays were projected coming out of the East and right now there stuck in the mud looking up. Sox took them in 3 games with a monster 13-0 blowout to close the series. The Orioles came into Fenway for the Sox home opener and took two out of three with a couple of tight games which proved to be the toughest test for Boston to that point. The following six games the brooms came out and the Red Sox swept the Tampa Bay Rays out of Boston and moved onto Cleveland for a meeting with Terry Francona's Indians. An emotional start to the series after the tragic Boston Marathon bombings the Red Sox were Boston strong and went on to sweep the Indians as well in Cleveland. The Sox and I would like to skip the next series against the Royals where they dropped two of three which included a day/night doubleheader in Boston. So we'll pretend that didn't happen and move on to the A's series. Besides Alfredo Aceves' meltdown in the second game and a very quiet night for the Boston bats during a rainy night, the Sox also went on to take that series.
A four game set now with the Astro's where the Red Sox have taken the first two games, and Felix Doubront set to take the mound tonight. After Sunday's conclusion to the series, the Sox could have won 6 of their first 8 series this season and seem to be cruising along the start of the 2013 season. It is too early to truly predict how many games this team will win, but right now Red Sox nation likes what they see and so do I.
