Red Sox weekly preview: May 6-May 13

Well the past week hasn't quite gone the way that the Red Sox quite wanted it to. They lost their first game of the week against Toronto, before coming back to win the next two to win the series. The team then lost the first two games of the series against Texas and are playing the third game as I write this. The team needs to win this game, with a win they will move to 21-10 and with a loss the Rangers will equal their record with the Red Sox at 20-11. This week the team returns home for a 7 game home stand, all this week without a day off. They will play 4 games against the Minnesota Twins and 3 games against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Monday: Clay Buchholz vs Vance Worley
Well this looks like a very one sided pitching match-up if Ive ever seen one. That still doesn't mean that the Red Sox can take this guy easily. Worley is 0-4 to start the year with a 7.22 ERA. In his last start he gave up 6 runs on 2 hits in 4.2 innings. Buchholz on the other hand is 6-0 with a 1.01 ERA and in his last start gave up 0 runs, 2 hits and struck out 8. The game is a 7:10 start time and can be seen on NESN+ because the Bruins are on NESN.
Tuesday: Ryan Dempster vs Scott Diamond
Diamond has had 3 quality starts in a row, the last one allowing only 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings of work against the Tigers. He has a 2-2 record with a 3.97 ERA. Dempster had another good start last time out, giving up 1 run in 6 innings of work. He has struck out 7 batters in every start other than 1 this season. His record is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA. The game is on NESN and starts at 7:10.
Wednesday: Felix Doubront vs Pedro Hernandez
This will be Hernandez's 5th start of his major league career, his 4th start this season. He currently has a 1-0 record with a 3.92 ERA. In his last outing he gave up 8 hits and 4 walks in 5.1 innings. Doubront had an awful last performance giving up 12 hits and 6 runs in 3.2 innings. He has a 3-1 record with a 5.67 ERA. The game is at 7:10 and is on NESN+ again because the Bruins are playing again.
Thursday: John Lackey vs Kevin Correia
Correia had 5 quality starts to begin the year before his last start against Cleveland. He gave up 4 runs in 5 innings of work. His record is 3-2 with a 2.83 ERA. Lackey had a good start in his last outing but wasn't able to get the run support he needed to pick up a W. He gave up 3 runs in 5 innings of work. His record currently stands at 1-2 with a 3.52 ERA. The game is a 7:10 start and is being broadcasted on NESN.
Friday: Pitchers TBD
In game one against Toronto it is expected that Lester will get the ball in the start. He is currently 4-0 on the year with a 3.11 ERA, but these stats do not include the game against Texas that he is pitching in right now. Toronto has not announced their starting pitcher. The game is a 7:10 start and will be on NESN.
Saturday:Pitchers TBD
It is expected that Clay Buchholz will get the start in the second game of the series against Toronto. Buchholz will get the start on Monday so look there for his information. The game is a 1:35 start time and is on NESN.
Sunday:Pitchers TBD
The final game of the week should feature Ryan Dempster for the Red Sox. He is also scheduled to pitch on Tuesday so check there for his current stats. The game is a 1:35 start and will be on NESN and TBS.

This should be a positive week for the Sox, they have had success against Toronto already and the pitching match-ups against the Twins look favorable. How do you think the team will do? Leave a comment below or on twitter @ryanthahawaiian.
