It would have been a good idea to go to sleep early, as the Red Sox West Coast trip continued to head South. The team gave up 15 hits and 11 runs in a blowout loss in the first game of the series against the Mariners. Here are the 3 stars of the game:
Star 3: Justin Smoak
Smoak went 3-4 for the Mariners with 2 RBI's and 2 runs cored. He hit 2 doubles, bringing his total to 11 on the year and increased his season RBI total to 17. He started to scoring for the Mariners with a double in the 4th from which the team never looked back.
Star 2: Felix Hernandez
Hernandez got the lead in the 4th inning and he never looked back, going 7 innings and increasing his record to 9-4 on the season. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in his 7 innings of work. He struck out 6 and walked 2.
Star 1: Michael Saunders
Saunders went 2-4 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. His 3 RBI night brought his total to 20 on the season. He walked in a run in the 4th inning and then had doubles in the 6th and 7th innings each bringing in a single run.

The Sox quickly need to turn this around, losing 3 in a row on the road is not good, it seems as if the all star break is coming at a very crucial point for the Sox, after playing so well they are currently playing so poorly. What do they need to do to get out of this little slump? Leave your answer in the comments section below or on twitter @ryanthahawaiian.
