The Red Sox looked to go into the 3 day All Star break on a high note, not as if their entire season hasn't been a high note already, but fell short in extra innings. The Sox enter the break with a 58-39 record, 2.5 games up on Tampa bay in the AL East and the most wins in the Major Leagues. Both pitchers on Sunday pitched well, Workman put in a great performance against the All Star Bartolo Colon. Here are the stars of the game:
Star 3: Bartolo Colon
Colon, who made one last start before the All Star game. He pitched 6.1 innings of 2 run baseball allowing 8 hits. He struck out 4 and walked no runs. He threw 107 pitches with 76 of them strikes. His ERA increased to 2.70 on the season.
Star 2: Brandon Workman
Workman in his first start this season outpitched Colon. He also pitched 6.1 innings but allowed only 2 hits, unfortunatly one was a 2 run home run tying the score in the 7th inning. He struck out 5 and walked only 1. He threw only 9 first pitch strikes against the 21 batters he faced.
Star 1: Josh Donaldson
Donaldson provided the offense for the A's, going 2-5 with 3 RBI's and a run scored. He hit a 2 run home run to tie the game in the 7th inning, his 16th home run of the season. He then hit the game winning, walk off single in the 11th inning. His RBI total increased to 61 on the season.
While the Red Sox could not close out the first half of the season with a win, they still are only 11 wins away from their total last year, with 65 games left to play. The team is looking like the best team in the AL, and one of the best in the Majors this season. What do you think they need to do in order to keep this pace up for the rest of the season?
