Boston buying? Sox looking for bullpen help

With the deadline approaching to trade for players who will be eligible for the postseason roster just a day away, could the Red Sox be shopping for another bullpen arm?

Currently, the right-handed bridge to closer Koji Uehara consists of Junichi Tazawa and rookie Brandon Workman. Manager John Farrell has also shown his willingness to use lefty Craig Breslow against righthanders.

"If there are ways we can improve, I know that those steps will be taken," manager John Farrell said. "Concern [about the bullpen depth]? No, not really."

The Red Sox would have a hard time nabbing a player off waivers considering their priority would be nearly last due to their place in the standings. Veteran relievers LaTroy Hawkins of the Mets and Kevin Gregg of the Cubs are rumored to be available and would be interesting options if the right deal were to present itself.

"If there's someone out there that makes sense for us to acquire, we might see that," Farrell said.

It is possible the Red Sox could promote from within. Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster, Jose De La Torre, and Steven Wright have all pitched for the Sox this year, but with limited success.

The Red Sox have until midnight Saturday to get dealing.
