Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz, who has been out since June 8 with a strained shoulder, is finally set to throw a pitch in a real game.
Barring an unforeseen sharknado, Buchholz will take the mound for the Single-A Lowell Spinners this afternoon. He's slated to throw between 45 and 50 pitches.
You don't want him to overdo it.
The Boston Herald reports that if everything goes according to plan, Buchholz could pitch for the Red Sox on Sept. 4 against the Tigers.
This season, Buchholz is 9-0 with a 1.71 ERA in just 84 1/3 innings.
Having a healthy and productive Buchholz would certainly help the Sox as they prepare for the stretch run and hopefully the playoffs.
That is, if the Red Sox make it.
