Game 112: Diamondbacks at Red Sox - Peavy makes Red Sox debut tonight

The Boston Red Sox could not add a 12th walk-off win to their resume, falling in the series opener to the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 at Fenway Park. Walk-off city will have to wait for another day. Maybe today, who knows?
However, if Jake Peavy has anything to do with the outcome, he’d like to not see the Sox have to win in their final at-bat. Peavy is making his Red Sox (66-45) debut after being trade to Boston from Chicago in a three-team trade that included the Red Sox sending Jose Iglesias to Detroit. Peavy was 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA with the White Sox. He held the Tigers to four runs on four hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts in his last start July 25. In home games (at U.S. Cellular Field), Peavy had a 2.59 ERA. On the road, that jumped to 6.10. Red Sox Nation hopes Peavy feels just as comfortable at Fenway as he did in Chicago.
Here is the Red Sox lineup tonight (first pitch – 7:10 pm EDT):
1. Ellsbury, CF
2. Victorino, RF
3. Pedroia, 2B
4. Ortiz, DH
5. Napoli, 1B
6. Gomes, LF
7. Saltalamacchia, C
8. Drew, SS
9. Snyder, 3B
Peavy, P
Going for the Diamondbacks (56-53) is NL Cy Young candidate Patrick Corbin, who is 12-2 with a 2.24 ERA, the third best mark in the Majors behind Clayton Kershaw (1.87) and Matt Harvey (2.21).
Ross, Fenway really do go well together
Cody Ross reminded the Fenway Faithful of one of the bright spots from a season ago. Ross homered in his return to Boston, as a visitor with the D-backs, and went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Many Red Sox fans and media members thought the Sox should have resigned Ross this offseason, but they did not match the offer of three years, $26 million that Ross got from Arizona.
More from Fenway
In keeping with the Fenway theme, we have more stats pertaining to the 101-year-old ball park. The Red Sox are 19-1 when scoring first at home this season. They have a 37-21 home record, the fourth best in the American League.
