5 Best Sox Teams Ever

With all the buzz surrounding this Red Sox team, and rightfully so, it's a good time to take a trip down memory lane and countdown the best Red Sox teams of all time.

5.) 2013 Team - I'm calling this "Impossible Dream III." There was the orginal Impossible Dream team in 1967, then 2004 was Impossible Dream II, now this year is the third edition. Why? Because of the expectations at the beginning of the season. This is probably overstated, but it doesn't make it any less true. This team went from worst to first. Literally. They clinched the AL East and by the time the season finishes, they could have the best record in the AL. They could be higher, depending on the final outcome (maybe a World Series?), but just the fact that they went worst to the top of the AL East and not just a wild card gets them a spot on this list.

4.) 1975 Team - They may have lost out in 7 games in the World Series, but this team was statistically strong, especially on offense. They ranked first in a lot of major categories, including hits, runs, and average, according to Baseball Reference. This team also included such Sox legends as Carlton Fisk, Carl Yastremski and Rico Petrocelli, to name a few.

3.) 2007 World Series Champs - This team won the World Series by sweeping the Colorado Rockies. Also, guess what? They were the last team to win the division. That's a good omen for this year's team. The 2007 team was also on top of the East for most of the season, but they had their struggles toward the end of the season, but they gave Boston it's second title in a few years. And they completely blew the Rockies away.

2.) 1967 - "The Impossible Dream." That's really all I need to say. This team, much like the current edition of the Red Sox, didn't have much in the way of expectations, and they made it all the way to the World Series only to lose to the Cardinals in 7 games, but they exceeded every expectation by making the Fall Classic and winning their division.

1.) 2004 - The team that finally broke the dreaded "Curse of the Bambino." This team is the best team in the history of the Red Sox because it ended 86 years of misery. Not to mention the greatest comeback of all time vs the Evil Empire. 0-3 down to a 4-3 series win. That, and an impressive sweep of the Cardinals earned them the #! spot.
