It was quite a night for Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz as he belted two home runs and recorded his 2000th career hit.

Ortiz, already the all-time leader for hits by a designated hitter, doubled to center field in the sixth inning for hit number 2000. Big Papi received a lengthy ovation from the Fenway Faithful.

Ortiz is the 14th Boston hitter to reach the mark and the first to do so since Manny Ramirez in 2006.

After the game, Ortiz said,
“It means a lot. My life, I’ve been built up around this organization, this city and these fans. I think the best thing to ever happen to me was to come to play here in Boston because what I see every day when I get to the field is pretty much what I saw growing up. In my country, people love baseball, people live for baseball and as a player it gets you going. There’s no way there’s a day you don’t feel like coming in and trying to get it done."

Ortiz had two of Boston's club record 8 home runs as the Red Sox clobbered the Tigers 20-4.
