Rumor had it that Stephen Drew was being pursued by the New York Yankees as a backup for the aging Derek Jeter at shortstop.
This was very good for his market value and had one thinking that he might be heading out of Boston sooner rather than later.
That ship might have sailed today, at least for a trip to the Big Apple.
CBS Sports Jon Heyman broke the story today that the Yankees have all but signed Brendan Ryan as Derek Jeter's backup.
Peter Gammons reported that the deal only is pending Brendan Ryan passing a physical.

The Yankees are still interested in Stephen Drew as they might have an issue on the other side of the infield with Robinson Cano resigning still up in the air, but that feels more like leverage in their dealings with Cano than reality.
Stephen Drew has lost a big suitor today, but will that mean he is going to stay in Boston?
