Cross another candidate buyer off the list.
Stephen Drew will not be part of the New York scene this coming year, says Mets special assistant J.P. Ricciardi. He said his team is happy with heading into the 2014 with Ruben Tejada as their shortstop. This report comes from WEEI covering J.P. Ricciardi's appearance on the Hot Stove Show.
He laminates a bit on the market right now for free agent shortstops stating, "...that the shortstop market appears thin right now, with most teams having settled on their starters."
The WEEI article also lists the projected starters with Xander Bogaerts listed as the Boston Red Sox expected starting shortstop.
Stephen Drew must have been rubbing his hands with free agency looming and his agent being Scott Boras. The track record of this guy had to put dollar signs into a players eyes, but one has to wonder what is being whispered into Stephen Drew's ear now?
