Four Real? Pitcher's Duel in South Side Chicago Ends in Red Sox Win 4-17-14

Sox win 3-1, take the series in Chicago.

Chicago, IL- It was advertised as a pitchers duel, and the fans got exactly as they expected Thursday night at US Cellular Field. Jon Lester went eight strong for the win, and the Red Sox hung around until the ninth, where they pulled away for the win.

1) Top of the first inning, and David Ortiz takes pitcher Chris Sale to a full count. A 95 mile an hour fastball doesn't trick Papi, and he hits it a ton to left center field. Just as it looks as if it will land in the first row of the stands in left-center, outfielder Adam Eaton skies and takes a sure homerun away from the Red Sox to keep the Sox scoreless. 0-0

2) Top of the sixth inning and neither pitcher has given up a hit. That all changes quickly. Xander Bogaerts pulls a 92 mph Sale fastball deep over the fence and Adam Eaton has no chance at the driven ball. 1-0 Red Sox.

3) Bottom of the sixth inning, and Jon Lester gives up three hits in a row to give up the lead. Tyler Flowers grounds a ball into the short stop hole for a single, then Leury Garcia catches Daniel Nava in too shallow and drops a ball over his head for a ground rule double.  Adam Eaton then dinks a ball to Dustin Pedroia and legs out a single to tie the game at 1.

4) Top of the ninth inning, and Mike Napoli and Mike Carp are on base with one out. Pitcher Ronald Belisario attacks David Ross with 95 mile an hour sinkers. With the count at 0-2, Ross protects the plate, slaps at an outside sinker and drops it down the right field line. The hit score Napoli from first and gives the Red Sox the lead. Jon Herrera then followed with a perfect bunt to plate another run. 3-1 Red Sox.

Koji came on in the ninth and shut the White Sox down, only giving up a two out single to Alexi Ramirez.

Tomorroq.,John Lackey and his 3.86 ERA face the Orioles and Chris Tillman with his 0.84 as the Red Sox travel back to Fenway after thier lacklucker road trip, where they won three games and lost four.
