The Orioles jumped out to an early 6-0 lead off Boston starting pitcher Clay Buchholz and then held off a late rally to defeat the Red Sox 7-6 on Patriots Day at Fenway Park.

Brock Holt beat out an infield hit with one out in the bottom of the 9th and was doubled over to 3rd by Dustin Pedroia. David Ortiz was intentionally walked and Mike Napoli's ground out brought in Holt to make it 7-6.

Buchholz started off sharp for Boston but ran into trouble in the top of the 3rd inning giving up 5 straight hits before an out was recorded. He was charged with 6 runs on 7 hits in 2.1 innings; he walked 1 and struck out 1.

The Red Sox cut the 6-0 Baltimore lead in half with 3 in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jackie Bradley Jr. and Dustin Pedroia sandwiched RBI doubles around a Brock Holt sacrifice fly. David Ross's 1st home run of the season in the bottom of the 7th brought the Sox to within 2 at 6-4.

The Orioles scored in the top of the 8th to make it 7-4; Mike Napoli led off the bottom of the frame with his 4th home run of the season to bring the Baltimore lead back to 2.
