David Ortiz's 2-out single in the top of the 9th inning broke up a no-hit bid by Yu Darvish as the Texas Rangers blanked the Red Sox 8-0 in the opening game of the road trip in Texas.
Darvish was perfect through the first 20 Boston hitters he faced until an error and a walk in the Boston 7th. He struck out 12 and walked only 2. It was the 2nd time in his career that he was 1 out away from a no-hitter.
Clay Buchholz lasted only 4.1 innings; he was charged with 6 runs (all earned) on 10 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.
