Eight strong innings from Jon Lester (SIGN THE MAN ALREADY), a Stephen Drew home run (no, honest), and a broken-bat single by Jonathan Herrera combined to give the Red Sox a 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles in game one of their Saturday day/night doubleheader at Fenway Park.
Lester allowed just two unearned runs on five hits over eight innings. He struck out seven and didn't walk anyone.
Drew homered to right with one out in the bottom of the second and Boston doubled the lead when Brock Holt singled home Jackie Bradley, Jr. who had doubled.
With the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, pinch hitter Jonny Gomes led off with a single. He was sacrificed to second by David Ross and then scored on a looping single to center by Herrera.
