Red Sox Pregame 8/7/14
St. Louis, MO- Boston and St. Louis have played in two tight and low scoring games this week and tonight determines who wins the series. The 50-63 Red Sox give Brandon Workman a chance to improve his 1-4 record, while stud Adam Wainwright takes the mound for the Cardnals. Wainwright is 13-6 with a 2.26 ERA this season.
Workman has been up and down in his opportunities with the Red Sox, and in his last game he went five innings giving up five runs ( 2 earned). Wainwright usually goes deep into games and has pitched very well in July. In six July starts, he gave up a total of six runs. His last start, August 1 versus the Brewers, he gave up 7 runs in 5 1/3 innings. Boston hopes to jump on the Ace early to keep the momentum from last night's win going.
Tidbits:
Xander Bogaerts in still only 21 people! He has struggled mightily this June and July, but he drove in both runs last night with hard hit balls. He also made a run scoring play at short. He was 0 for his last 15 before a double in the fourth inning of last night's game.
Boston is 7-7 in inter league play this season.
Boston faced Wainwright twice in last year's World Series. He gave up 8 runs in 12 innings of work.
