Major League Baseball announced this afternoon that the designated hitter has been suspended for one game and fined for making contact with the home plate umpire during Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
After having three hits on Saturday's loss, David Ortiz was ejected during the Sunday game for arguing balls and strikes with third base umpire Jerry Meals, who said his bat went around home plate on a check swing. As usual, Ortiz got mad and threw his bat in the middle of the at-bat. Then he proceeded to argue with Meals until being ejected by the home-plate umpire, and it seemed that Big Papi made contact with him.
Ortiz has elected to appeal the suspension so he's going to be in the lineup against Tampa.
