Rodriguez (pictured) allowed just three hits and walked one in the victory, striking out six in the process. He had outstanding command, throwing 66 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Ortiz drove in three runs with his 18th home run of the year in the bottom of the fifth inning; he added his 19th two innings later, a towering shot into the Monster Seats just to the left of where the ESPN TV announcers were sitting. He's now just 15 home runs away from 500 for his career.

The Red Sox rapped out a season-high twenty hits. Xander Bogaerts also had four hits for Boston. Brock Holt, Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval and Mike Napoli each had two.

Holt left the game in the sixth inning with tightness in his left knee.

A cautionary note in case you're excited about the Sox taking the series from the Tigers - Joe Kelly is on the mound tomorrow.
