Rick Porcello (pictured) went 6.1 innings to earn his team-leading twelfth win of the year. He shut down the Giants on just four hits while striking out three and walking a pair.

Robbie Ross Jr. and Brad Ziegler passed the baton to Koji Uehara who left the game after getting one out in the ninth with what appeared to be an injury.

Tommy Layne recorded the final two outs.

Brock Holt's fifth home run of the year in the bottom of the third inning off former Red Sox pitcher Jake Peavy gave Boston an early 1-0 lead. David Ortiz added to that an inning later with a three-run blast off Peavy. For Big Papi, it was his 23rd home run of the year.

Holt's home run came on "Pet Brock Night" in which the first 15,000 fans in attendance at the game were given a souvenir.
