Eduardo Rodriguez held the Mariners to just one run over 6.1 innings and Boston got solo home runs by Aaron Hill and Mookie Betts (pictured) as the Red Sox topped Seattle 2-1 at Safeco Field Monday night.

Rodriguez turned in one of his best performances of the year striking out six and scattering three hits. He threw 64 of his 101 pitches for strikes and walked just one.

Craig Kimbrel, just off the disabled list after knee surgery, struck out the side in the ninth for his 18th save.

Mariners starter James Paxton held the Red Sox to just one run in his eight innings of work, a solo home run by Hill in the eighth which tied the score at one apiece.

Betts led the ninth off with his 22nd home run of the year; it came off Seattle reliever Steve Cishek.
