Brian Johnson not only made the best of his spot-start opportunity, but he turned in perhaps the performance of his career, throwing a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 Red Sox win over the Mariners on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park.

Making just his third big-league start, Johnson (pictured) allowed just five hits, struck out eight, and didn't walk a batter. It was the first complete game of Johnson's MLB career and for that matter, the first complete game by a Red Sox starter this year.

Boston scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Xander Bogaerts, Andrew Benintendi and Sandy Leon.

Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a two-run homer in the sixth with a man aboard and Mitch Moreland drove in the final Boston run with a single in the eighth.

The Red Sox are riding a season-high six-game winning streak and will send Rick Porcello to the mound Sunday afternoon looking to sweep the weekend series.
