The Red Sox had CC Sabathia on the ropes.

He had already made an error and walked two batters to load the bases. He was clearly laboring...and it was only the first inning.

And then, like so many times this year, the Red Sox came up empty.

Boston dropped the opening round of their four-game weekend series with the Yankees 6-2 in the Bronx Thursday night.

Sabathia went six innings, allowing just one run on four hits and five walks as the Boston lead over New York shrank to 4.5 games.

Eduardo Rodriguez (pictured) took the loss for the Red Sox. He gave up five runs on ten hits including home runs to Gary Sanchez and Greg Bird.

Andrew Benintendi had two of Boston's four hits.
