J.D. Martinez (pictured) launched his MLB-best 28th home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Red Sox beat the Rangers 5-0 in the opening game of the homestand Monday night at Fenway Park.

The win was Boston's seventh in a row, giving them a 2.5 game lead over the Yankees in the American League Eastern Division.

Eduardo Rodriguez went 5.2 innings in securing his 11th win of the year, a career high for him. He scattered three hits and walked three while striking out five.

Steve Pearce gave Boston a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with his his fifth home run of the year, and his first at Fenway as a member of the Red Sox.

Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Martinez, and Pearce had two hits apiece; the top of the lineup was a combined 8-for-16 with all five RBI's.
