The Red Sox announced this morning that righthanded pitcher Nathan Eovaldi has been placed on the 10-day injured list with what is being called a "loose body" in his right elbow.
The move is retroactive to April 18.
Lefty pitcher Bobby Poyner has been called up from Pawtucket to take Eovaldi's spot on the active roster for the time being.
Eovaldi had the same loose-body issue while with the Rays in 2018. He was out from late March until May 30 and was traded to the Red Sox in July 2018, helping the team win the World Series.
He has also undergone Tommy John surgery twice - once in high school as a junior and again in 2016 while with the New York Yankees.
