This is probably a rhetorical question, but here goes -
Can the 2020 Red Sox possibly get any worse?
It's not just that they were pounded 17-8 by the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, suffering their fourth straight loss.
It's how they did it.
Their "starting pitcher" was making his first MLB start and couldn't get out of the third inning. Marcus Walden was charged with six runs without recording a single out. The offense left a combined 22 on base.
Rafael Devers (pictured) made three errors and couldn't possibly appear to be any more lost than he does right now.
But wait...it gets better (or worse as the case may be).
The game ended with catcher Kevin Plawecki pitching, shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin behind the plate, and the other catcher Christian Vazquez playing second.
The entire thing literally defies description.
After the game, manager Ron Roenicke summed things up by saying, "We're just going through a bad point."
Gee...thanks for that scintillating breakdown there, Sparky.
But wait. That's not even the best part.
The Yankees are up next. Get prepared for an UGLY weekend.
